“Hope is like a path in the countryside. Originally, there is no path—but when many people walk on it, the path comes into existence.”
What this quote means
Lu Xun's metaphor illustrates that hope is not a pre-existing given but a collective construction. Just as a path is born from the repeated imprint of footsteps, hope is created through the action and perseverance of each individual. It reminds us that we have the power to forge our own way, even where none exists. In difficult times, this quote encourages us to move forward together, for it is by walking that we create the path.
How to apply it daily
Choose a goal that seems distant, then take one concrete step today to start forging your own path.
