About

Born in London in 1889, Charlie Chaplin began his career on stage before joining Keystone Studios in 1913. He created the character of the Little Tramp in 1914 and became a major figure in silent cinema. He co-founded United Artists in 1919 and directed landmark films such as The Kid, City Lights, and Modern Times. Remaining British, he moved to Switzerland in 1952. He received an Honorary Academy Award in 1972 and was knighted in 1975.
