Roger Ebert was an American film critic, born June 18, 1942, in Urbana, Illinois. With a journalism degree from the University of Illinois, he became the film critic for the Chicago Sun-Times in 1967, a position he held until his death in 2013. In 1975, he was the first critic to win the Pulitzer Prize for Criticism. With Gene Siskel, he hosted TV shows like Sneak Previews and Siskel & Ebert, popularizing the 'two thumbs up' rating. He authored over 20 books, including Life Itself (2011). After battling cancer, he lost his voice in 2006 but continued writing until his death on April 4, 2013.
