Daniel Schneidermann, born April 5, 1958 in Paris, is a French journalist specializing in media criticism. A graduate of the Centre de Formation des Journalistes, he joined the daily Le Monde in 1981, where he became a senior reporter and then a television columnist from 1992. In 1995, he created and hosted the weekly program Arrêt sur images on France 5, dedicated to decoding television media. Dismissed from Le Monde in 2003 after publishing his essay Le Cauchemar médiatique, he moved to Libération. After his show was canceled in 2007, he launched @rretsurimages.net in 2008, a pioneering French news site funded entirely by subscriptions without advertising.
