Stephen Tyrone Colbert est né le 13 mai 1964 à Washington, D.C. Il a étudié le théâtre à l'université Northwestern. Il s'est fait connaître comme correspondant dans The Daily Show avec Jon Stewart (1997-2005), puis a créé et animé The Colbert Report sur Comedy Central (2005-2014), une satire des émissions d'opinion. Il a ensuite animé The Late Show with Stephen Colbert sur CBS de 2015 à 2026. Il a remporté plusieurs Emmy Awards et un Peabody Award. Il est l'auteur du best-seller I Am America (And So Can You!). Il a popularisé le terme « truthiness ».
