Yusuf Raza Gilani, born June 9, 1952, in Karachi, is a Pakistani politician. From an influential Multan family, he studied at Forman Christian College and earned a master's in journalism from the University of the Punjab. A member of the Pakistan Muslim League in the 1980s, he joined the Pakistan People's Party (PPP) in 1988. He served as Speaker of the National Assembly from 1993 to 1997, then was imprisoned from 2001 to 2006. As Prime Minister from 2008 to 2012, he oversaw the 18th Amendment and reinstated the Chief Justice. In 2024, he became Chairman of the Senate.
