About
Yann Martel is a Canadian writer born in Salamanca, Spain, to Canadian parents. He grew up in several countries, including Canada, Costa Rica, France, Spain, Mexico, and the United States. He studied philosophy at Trent University. He is best known for his novel Life of Pi (2001), which won the Booker Prize in 2002 and was adapted into an Oscar-winning film by Ang Lee. He has also published short story collections, novels, and essays. He is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Literature and a Companion of the Order of Canada.
