About
Yann Arthus-Bertrand, born March 13, 1946, in Paris, is a French photographer, journalist, filmmaker, and environmentalist. After early work in cinema, he moved to Kenya at age 30 to study lion behavior. In 1991, he founded Altitude Agency, the first press agency specializing in aerial photography. His book Earth from Above (1999), published under UNESCO patronage, was a worldwide success with over 3 million copies sold. He created the GoodPlanet NGO in 2005 and directed the documentary Home (2009), released for free. Elected to the Académie des Beaux-Arts in 2006, he was named UNEP Goodwill Ambassador in 2009. His work raises awareness of Earth's beauty and the need to protect it.
