About

William Wordsworth, a major figure of English Romanticism, was born in Cockermouth, Cumberland. After studying at Cambridge, he lived in France during the early years of the Revolution. Returning to England, he collaborated with Samuel Taylor Coleridge on Lyrical Ballads (1798), which marked the beginning of English Romanticism. Settling in the Lake District, he composed his most famous works, including 'Ode: Intimations of Immortality' and 'I Wandered Lonely as a Cloud'. His autobiographical poem The Prelude, completed in 1805, was published posthumously in 1850. He was appointed Poet Laureate in 1843.
