William Shatner, born March 22, 1931, in Montreal, is a Canadian actor who became a global icon for his portrayal of Captain James T. Kirk in the original Star Trek television series (1966-1969) and seven subsequent feature films. Trained as a classical actor, he performed Shakespeare at the Stratford Festival before moving to television. He won two Emmy Awards and a Golden Globe for his roles in The Practice and Boston Legal. A prolific author, he wrote science-fiction novels (TekWar series) and memoirs. In 2021, at age 90, he became the oldest person to fly in space aboard Blue Origin's New Shepard.
