About

Born in Odessa into a middle-class Jewish family, Vladimir Jabotinsky studied law in Rome while working as a press correspondent. The 1903 Kishinev pogrom propelled him into active Zionism. Founder of the Revisionist Zionist movement (1925) and the Betar youth movement, he advocated a maximalist Jewish state on both banks of the Jordan. A polyglot writer, he authored the essay 'The Iron Wall' and novels such as Samson the Nazarite and The Five. He died in the United States in 1940.
