About

Violeta Parra (1917-1967) was a major figure in Chilean and Latin American music. She collected around 3,000 traditional songs across Chile, contributing to the preservation of folklore. She is considered the founder of the Nueva Canción Chilena movement. Her song 'Gracias a la Vida' (1966) became an international anthem. Parra was also a visual artist, exhibiting at the Louvre in 1964. She founded La Carpa de la Reina, a cultural center in Santiago. A member of the Parra family, she influenced generations of musicians.
