Vincent Thomas Lombardi, born June 11, 1913 in Brooklyn, New York, and died September 3, 1970 in Washington, D.C., was a legendary American football coach. After playing at Fordham University, he became an assistant coach for the New York Giants (1954-1958), helping them win the 1956 NFL Championship. From 1959 to 1967, he led the Green Bay Packers, winning five NFL titles and the first two Super Bowls. In 1969, he coached the Washington Redskins, leading them to their first winning season in 14 years. His career record was 105 wins, 35 losses, and 6 ties. The Super Bowl trophy has borne his name since 1971.
