About
Vicente Huidobro (1893-1948) was a Chilean poet, founder of Creacionismo, an avant-garde movement that advocates the creation of new realities through language. Settled in Paris in 1916, he co-founded the review Nord-Sud with Apollinaire and Reverdy, and collaborated with Picasso, Juan Gris, and Miró. His major work, Altazor (1931), is a long poem that explores the limits of language. Politically engaged, he fought on the Republican side during the Spanish Civil War and joined the Chilean Communist Party.
