About
Born in Sofia, Tzvetan Todorov moved to Paris in 1963 and earned his doctorate under Roland Barthes. A research director at CNRS, he published seminal works in literary theory, such as The Fantastic, before turning to the history of ideas and moral philosophy. His essays on the conquest of America, concentration camps, and the Enlightenment examine the relationship to the other and totalitarianism. Winner of the Prince of Asturias Award in 2008, he authored more than thirty books translated worldwide.
