About

Truman Capote, born Truman Streckfus Persons in New Orleans, is a major American writer of the 20th century. He adopted his stepfather's surname and grew up in Monroeville, Alabama, where he befriended Harper Lee. His first novel, Other Voices, Other Rooms (1948), brought him fame. He is the author of the novella Breakfast at Tiffany's (1958) and above all In Cold Blood (1966), which founded the 'nonfiction novel' genre. Winner of several awards, including the Edgar Award, he died in Los Angeles in 1984.
