About
Tristan Corbière, born Édouard-Joachim Corbière, was a French poet born in 1845 in Brittany. Suffering from rheumatism and heart problems from adolescence, he led an eccentric and solitary life in Roscoff. His only collection, Les Amours jaunes (1873), went unnoticed during his lifetime. Rediscovered by Paul Verlaine in Les Poètes maudits (1884), he became a key figure of Symbolism. His poetry, marked by irony and maritime realism, influenced modernists like Ezra Pound and T.S. Eliot.
