About

Antonio 'Toni' Negri (1933-2023) was an Italian Marxist political philosopher and a central figure of Italian autonomism. A professor of state theory at the University of Padua, he co-founded the far-left groups Potere Operaio and Autonomia Operaia. Arrested in 1979 on terrorism-related charges, he was elected to parliament in 1983 and then lived in exile in France until 1997. He is known for his Empire trilogy written with Michael Hardt, and for his works on Marx and Spinoza.
