About

Thérèse of Lisieux, born Marie-Françoise-Thérèse Martin in Alençon in 1873, entered the Carmelite convent in Lisieux at age 15. She developed a spirituality of the 'little way,' based on trust and love in everyday actions. Her autobiography, Story of a Soul, published after her death, achieved great success. Dying of tuberculosis in 1897, she was beatified in 1923, canonized in 1925, proclaimed universal patroness of missions in 1927, and declared a Doctor of the Church in 1997.
