About

Theo Angelopoulos was a major Greek director of European art cinema. Born in Athens, he studied law and then film in Paris (IDHEC). He began as a film critic before making his first feature, Reconstruction (1970). His work, marked by long takes and choreographed sequence shots, explores history, memory, and exile. He won the Palme d'Or at Cannes in 1998 for Eternity and a Day. He died in 2012, struck by a motorcycle near a film set.
