About

Ted Hughes, born in Yorkshire, studied archaeology and anthropology at Cambridge. He married American poet Sylvia Plath in 1956. His first collection, The Hawk in the Rain (1957), was acclaimed. He published major works such as Lupercal, Crow, and Birthday Letters. He also wrote the celebrated children's book The Iron Man. Appointed Poet Laureate of the UK in 1984, he received numerous awards, including the Queen's Gold Medal for Poetry and the Whitbread Book of the Year twice. He is buried in Devon.
