Tariq Aziz, born Mīkhāʾīl Yūḥannā, was an Iraqi politician and a key figure in Saddam Hussein's regime. A Ba'ath Party member, he served as Minister of Information (1974-1977), Deputy Prime Minister (1979), and Foreign Minister (1983-1991). As the only Christian in Saddam's inner circle, he was Iraq's primary international spokesman during the Iran-Iraq War and the Gulf War. After the 2003 US invasion, he surrendered to US forces and was convicted of crimes against humanity. He died in prison in 2015.
