Stephen Richards Covey, born October 24, 1932, in Salt Lake City and died July 16, 2012, was an American author and speaker. He earned degrees from the University of Utah, Harvard, and Brigham Young University, where he taught for over 25 years. His book *The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People* (1989) sold over 25 million copies. He founded the Covey Leadership Center, which became FranklinCovey. In 2010, he joined Utah State University. A member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, he was the father of nine children.
