About
Stan Laurel, born Arthur Stanley Jefferson in Ulverston, England, began his career in music hall before joining Fred Karno's troupe, where he was Charlie Chaplin's understudy. In 1927, he formed a legendary duo with Oliver Hardy, appearing in over a hundred films and successfully transitioning from silent to sound. Recipient of an Honorary Academy Award in 1961, he died in Santa Monica, California.
