Slavoj Žižek is a Slovenian philosopher and cultural critic, born on March 21, 1949, in Ljubljana. He earned a doctorate in philosophy from the University of Ljubljana (1981) and a doctorate in psychoanalysis from Paris-VIII University (1985). He is known for his work combining Lacanian psychoanalysis, Hegelian dialectics, and Marxist political theory. His book 'The Sublime Object of Ideology' (1989) brought him international recognition. He is International Director of the Birkbeck Institute for the Humanities in London and a member of the Slovenian Academy of Sciences and Arts. Author of over 50 books, he has taught at numerous prestigious universities.
