About

Silvina Ocampo (1903-1993) is a major figure in Argentine literature, known for her fantastic prose and poetry. Born in Buenos Aires into a wealthy family, she studied painting in Paris before turning to writing. Close to Jorge Luis Borges and her husband Adolfo Bioy Casares, she co-edited the foundational anthology of magical realism, Antología de la literatura fantástica (1940). Her work includes short story collections such as Viaje olvidado (1937) and La furia (1959), as well as poetry. A translator of Dickinson and Poe, she received the Gran Premio de Honor de la SADE in 1992.
