Shoghi Effendi (1897-1957) was the eldest grandson of ʻAbdu'l-Bahá and the designated Guardian of the Bahá'í Faith from 1921 until his death. He interpreted Bahá'í scriptures, translated sacred texts into English, and oversaw the construction of the Shrine of the Báb on Mount Carmel. He established the Bahá'í administrative order, appointed the Hands of the Cause, and launched the Ten Year Crusade for the global expansion of the faith.
