About

Shimon Peres, born Szymon Perski in Poland, immigrated to Mandatory Palestine in 1934. He served as Director-General of the Ministry of Defense (1953-1959), was a member of the Knesset from 1959 to 2007, and served as Prime Minister twice (1984-1986, 1995-1996). As Foreign Minister, he played a key role in the Oslo Accords, earning him the Nobel Peace Prize in 1994. He was President of Israel from 2007 to 2014. He founded the Peres Center for Peace and died in 2016.
