Shelley Duvall, born July 7, 1949 in Texas, became a prominent figure in American cinema of the 1970s and 1980s. Discovered by Robert Altman, she appeared in several of his films, including Brewster McCloud, McCabe & Mrs. Miller, and Nashville. She won the Best Actress award at the Cannes Film Festival in 1977 for 3 Women. She is also known for her role as Wendy Torrance in Stanley Kubrick's The Shining and for creating and producing the children's series Faerie Tale Theatre, which won a Peabody Award. After a 21-year hiatus, she returned to the screen for her final film, The Forest Hills (2023). She died in 2024 from complications of diabetes.
