Sarojini Naidu, born on 13 February 1879 in Hyderabad, was an Indian poet and political activist. Nicknamed the 'Nightingale of India' by Gandhi, she published her first poetry collections in the early 20th century. Involved in the struggle for independence, she became the first woman president of the Indian National Congress in 1925. She participated in the Salt March and the Round Table Conference in London. After independence, she was appointed Governor of the United Provinces in 1947, becoming the first woman to hold that office. She died on 2 March 1949 in Lucknow.
