Ron Paul, born August 20, 1935, in Pittsburgh, is an American physician and politician. After medical school, he served as an Air Force flight surgeon and later practiced obstetrics in Texas. He was elected to twelve terms in the U.S. House of Representatives, serving from 1976 to 1985 and again from 1997 to 2013. Nicknamed 'Dr. No' for his consistent opposition to legislation he deemed unconstitutional, he ran for president as the Libertarian Party nominee in 1988 and sought the Republican nomination in 2008 and 2012. Author of several bestselling books, he is a leading figure in the American libertarian movement.
