Roger Ward Babson, born July 6, 1875, in Gloucester, Massachusetts, and died March 5, 1967, in Lake Wales, Florida, was an American entrepreneur, economist, and author. A graduate of MIT in 1898, he founded the Babson Statistical Organization in 1904, one of the first investment advisory services. He is best known for predicting the Wall Street Crash of 1929. In 1919, he established the Babson Institute (now Babson College), dedicated to practical business education. He also founded the Gravity Research Foundation in 1948 and ran as the Prohibition Party candidate in the 1940 U.S. presidential election.
