About
Roberto Rossellini was an Italian film director and a key figure of Italian Neorealism. Born in Rome, he began his career under fascism, then gained international fame with his war trilogy: Rome, Open City (1945), Paisan (1946), and Germany, Year Zero (1948), which used non-professional actors and real locations. His marriage to Ingrid Bergman produced films like Stromboli (1949) and Journey to Italy (1954), later acclaimed as masterpieces and influential on the French New Wave. After 1964, he focused on educational television films. He influenced many filmmakers, including Federico Fellini and Martin Scorsese.
