Robert Zemeckis is an American filmmaker born in Chicago in 1952. Graduating from USC in 1973, he gained attention with the short film A Field of Honor. He achieved his first major success with Romancing the Stone (1984), then left a mark on popular culture with the Back to the Future trilogy (1985-1990) and Who Framed Roger Rabbit (1988). In 1994, Forrest Gump earned him the Academy Award for Best Director. He is also a pioneer of motion-capture filmmaking with films like The Polar Express (2004). In 1998, he donated $5 million to USC to establish a center for digital arts.
