About

Robert Louis Stevenson, born in Edinburgh in 1850, is a major Scottish writer of the late 19th century. Son of a lighthouse engineer, he studied law at the University of Edinburgh but devoted himself to literature. Suffering from chronic health problems, he traveled extensively, notably in France and America, before settling in Samoa in 1890. He is famous for his adventure novels such as Treasure Island and Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde, as well as his children's poetry. His work explores moral dualities and human complexity. He died in Samoa in 1894.
