Robert Collier was an American author of self-help and metaphysical books. Born in St. Louis, Missouri, he was the nephew of Peter Fenelon Collier, founder of Collier's Weekly magazine. After training for the priesthood, he worked as a mining engineer and then in advertising in New York City. Recovered from a chronic illness through mental healing, he turned to the study of the power of the mind. His best-known work, The Secret of the Ages (1926), sold over 300,000 copies during his lifetime. His writings on visualization, desire, and faith prefigured the modern law of attraction movement.
