Ricky Gervais is a British comedian, actor, writer, director, and producer, born on 25 June 1961 in Reading, Berkshire. He studied philosophy at University College London. He is best known for co-creating and co-writing the television series The Office (2001-2003) with Stephen Merchant, in which he starred as David Brent. He also created and starred in Extras (2005-2007), Derek (2012-2014), and After Life (2019-2022). He has won numerous awards, including Golden Globes, Primetime Emmy Awards, and BAFTA Awards. He has hosted the Golden Globe Awards five times. He is also the author of the children's book series Flanimals and co-wrote and directed the film The Invention of Lying (2009).
