About

René Goscinny was born in Paris in 1926 to Jewish emigrants from Poland and Ukraine. He spent his childhood in Buenos Aires, then lived in New York from 1945 to 1951, working on children's books and meeting future MAD Magazine artists. Returning to Paris in 1954, he wrote for the Lucky Luke comic strip with Morris, then co-created Astérix with Albert Uderzo in 1959, as well as Le Petit Nicolas with Jean-Jacques Sempé and Iznogoud with Jean Tabary. He founded the magazine Pilote. Made a Chevalier des Arts et des Lettres in 1967, he died of a heart attack in 1977. His works have sold over 500 million copies and been translated into 150 languages.
