Régis Debray, born in 1940 in Paris, is a French writer and philosopher. A philosophy graduate, he taught at the University of Havana and associated with Che Guevara, whose experience he recounted in 'Revolution in the Revolution' (1967). Captured in Bolivia, he was imprisoned and released in 1970. After a stay in Chile, he became an advisor to François Mitterrand. Founder of mediology, he studies cultural transmission. He received the Prix Femina in 1977 and served on the Stasi Commission on secularism.
