About
Raymond Poincaré, born in Bar-le-Duc in 1860, was a lawyer and statesman. Deputy then senator for the Meuse, he held several ministerial posts before becoming Prime Minister in 1912. President of the Republic from 1913 to 1920, he embodied the Union sacrée during the First World War. Back in power in 1922, he ordered the occupation of the Ruhr, then stabilized the franc in 1926. A member of the Académie française, he wrote political and literary essays.
