About

Pierre Elliott Trudeau was born in Montreal in 1919. After studying law and political science, he co-founded the journal Cité libre and taught law. Elected as an MP in 1965, he became Minister of Justice and then Prime Minister in 1968. During his terms, he patriated the Canadian Constitution and adopted the Charter of Rights and Freedoms, made English and French the official languages, and led the No side in the 1980 Quebec referendum. He died in Montreal in 2000.
