Pierre Reverdy, born September 13, 1889, in Narbonne and died June 17, 1960, in Solesmes, was a French poet associated with Cubism and Surrealism. Settling in Paris in 1910, he frequented avant-garde artists in Montmartre. He founded the review Nord-Sud (1917-1918) and published major collections, including Les Ardoises du toit (1918). In 1926, he converted to Catholicism and retired near the Abbey of Solesmes, living in semi-seclusion. He joined the Resistance during the Occupation and published Le Chant des morts (1948).
