About
Pierre Daninos, born in Paris in 1913, was a French writer and humorist. A journalist at Le Figaro from age 18, he gained recognition with Les Carnets du Bon Dieu (1947), which won the Prix Interallié. His greatest success, Les Carnets du Major Thompson (1954), a satire of French customs seen through the eyes of a British officer, sold over a million copies in France and was translated into 27 languages. He published more than forty books between 1940 and 2000, including several sequels to the Major Thompson. He died in Paris in 2005.
