About
Philippe Noiret (1930-2006) was a major French actor, trained in theater at Jean Vilar's TNP. He made his film debut in 1956 in Agnès Varda's La Pointe Courte and achieved stardom with Alexandre le bienheureux (1967). He appeared in over 125 films, collaborating with Bertrand Tavernier (eight films) and Italian directors such as Mario Monicelli and Ettore Scola. He won two César Awards for Best Actor (1976, 1990) and a BAFTA for Cinema Paradiso (1988). He is also known for his role as Pablo Neruda in Il Postino (1994).
