Peter Sellers, born Richard Henry Sellers in Southsea, England, was a British actor and comedian. The son of vaudeville performers, he made his stage debut as a child. After World War II, he rose to fame on radio in The Goon Show (1950s), displaying exceptional vocal talent. In film, he excelled in comedies such as The Ladykillers (1955) and I'm All Right, Jack (1959), which earned him a BAFTA. He was nominated for Oscars for Dr. Strangelove (1964) and Being There (1979), and played Inspector Clouseau in the Pink Panther series. He was appointed Commander of the Order of the British Empire in 1966.
