Paolo Gentiloni is an Italian politician born in Rome in 1954. Graduated in political science, he started as a journalist before entering politics. He was a city councillor in Rome (1993-2000), a member of parliament (2001-2019), Minister of Communications (2006-2008), Minister of Foreign Affairs (2014-2016), and Prime Minister (2016-2018). A founding member of the Democratic Party, he led it from 2018 to 2019. European Commissioner for Economy from 2019 to 2024, he then co-chaired a UN expert group on debt. He teaches and writes for La Repubblica.
