Pamulaparthi Venkata Narasimha Rao (1921-2004), known as P. V. Narasimha Rao, was the 9th Prime Minister of India, serving from 1991 to 1996. Born in present-day Telangana, he studied at Pune, Bombay, and Nagpur, earning a law degree. A polyglot, he translated literary works between Telugu, Hindi, and Marathi. He served as Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh (1971-1973) and held several ministerial portfolios, including External Affairs. As Prime Minister, he and Finance Minister Manmohan Singh launched major economic reforms that liberalized India's economy. His tenure was also marked by the demolition of the Babri Masjid in 1992. He authored a political novel, The Insider (1998). He was posthumously awarded the Bharat Ratna in 2024.
