About
Pelham Grenville Wodehouse, born in Guildford in 1881, was an English humorous writer. After studying at Dulwich College, he briefly worked in a bank before becoming a journalist. He created the famous characters Bertie Wooster and his valet Jeeves, as well as Blandings Castle. A prolific author, he wrote over 90 books and collaborated on numerous plays and musical comedies. Captured by the Germans in 1940, his radio broadcasts from Berlin caused controversy. Naturalized as an American citizen in 1955, he was knighted in 1975.
