Orison Swett Marden (1848-1924) was an American writer and pioneer of the self-help genre. Orphaned at age seven, he worked as a farmhand before earning a degree from Boston University, followed by an M.D. and an LL.B. from Harvard. After a career in hotel management, he turned to writing at age 44. His first book, Pushing to the Front (1894), became a bestseller praised by Presidents McKinley and Roosevelt. In 1897, he founded SUCCESS magazine, which reached a circulation of half a million. He published over 50 books on success and positive thinking, becoming a key figure in the New Thought movement.
