About

Benigno Simeon "Ninoy" Aquino Jr. was born on November 27, 1932, in Concepcion, Tarlac, Philippines. Son of Senator Benigno Aquino Sr., he married Corazon Cojuangco in 1954. A journalist at 17, he covered the Korean War as the youngest war correspondent. Mayor of Concepcion at 22, then vice-governor and governor of Tarlac, he became a senator in 1967, the youngest in the country's history. An opponent of President Ferdinand Marcos, he was arrested during martial law in 1972 and imprisoned for over seven years. Exiled to the United States for heart surgery, he was assassinated upon his return to Manila on August 21, 1983.
